In 1988 Depeche Mode released a double live album titled simply ‘101’, which documented one night’s performance at the famed Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. It was the end of a two-year, worldwide tour and, as it’s made clear in the recording, the band left nothing on the table that night.
What blows our minds especially about Depeche Mode 101 is that, for all of the wild energy of that concert, the artwork that was chosen to grace the album cover is a surprisingly quiet snapshot of a merch booth where t-shirts and posters were sold.
