In the Fall of 1987 R.E.M. broke through to a mainstream audience for the first time thanks to left-of-center hits like “The One I Love” and “It’s the End of the World”. Trading in their normal theater circuit for larger arenas, the band hit the road for six months starting in September of that year, covering UK, Europe and myriad U.S. cities and colleges. This is one of a handful of different designs the band sold on that tour, carefully reproduced, and printed lovingly on t-shirt in solid purple.
